AP: Liability waiver doesn’t shield Vail Resorts from $21M ski lift fall verdict
Recreation Law Group Founder and Managing Attorney Leah Corrigan was quoted by the Associated Press in a story about a skier won a $21 million judgment after suing Vail Resorts even though she signed a liability waiver. The skier fell from a lift at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in 2022 and was paralyzed.
Corrigan said the cost of liability protections could prevent small businesses and nonprofits from offering recreational opportunities.
“Engaging in recreation with inherent risks and agreeing not to sue is a choice — and it may become a choice we no longer have the opportunity to make,” Corrigan wrote. “That is something we should all care about.”
