About Travis

Travis is a lifelong educator who has served in a variety of roles across K–12 education in both public and independent schools, with a focus on outdoor and experiential programming, for nearly three decades. A veteran classroom teacher, school administrator, and field leader, Travis brings the RLG team a comprehensive understanding of outdoor program design and operations, school policy, critical incident management, and the development of high-quality systems that integrate educational excellence with industry standard risk management.

Education + Experience

Travis holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Science Education from Montana State University. His career began in the Teton County School District in Jackson, Wyoming, included several years in the Midwest, and for the past twenty-one years has been based in Idaho, where he has taught math and science, and helped develop experiential outdoor education experiences in independent schools. Most recently, Travis served as Co-Director of the Sun Valley Community School Outdoor Program and Outdoor Leadership Academy, while also chairing the school’s Crisis Management Team. Travis maintains a NOLS Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and is an American Travis maintains a NOLS Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and is an American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single Pitch Instructor. Additionally, he has completed an American Canoe Association (ACA) Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue course and an American Avalanche Institute (AAI) Professional Level 2 Avalanche course.

All About the Outdoors 

When he isn’t leading students and faculty on backcountry adventures during the school year, Travis enjoys ski touring out his back door and chasing his dogs around the Wood River Valley on skate skis. More recently, he has traded his well-worn trail running shoes for a gravel bike—a decision his aging joints are eternally grateful for.
